Amarula Malva Pudding made by Beastly Eats

South Africa’s favourite dessert with a twist. This Amarula malva pudding is the perfect end to a braai.

What you’ll need:


4 tbs butter

1 cup sugar

2 eggs (large)

2 tsp bicarbonate of soda

1 cup milk

2 cups self raising flour

pinch salt

2 tbs apricot jam

2 tbs vinegar

Amarula Sauce/Syrup

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

250ml fresh cream

2 cups amarula




  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Grease an oven proof dish.
  3. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (don’t cheat on this process).
  4. Add the egg one by one, mixing well after the other.
  5. Dissolve bicarbonate of soda in the milk.
  6. Sift the flour and salt together, add flour mixture to the creamed mixture.
  7. Add milk slowly and add apricot jam, mix well.
  8. Lastly stir in the vinegar.
  9. Pour into prepared dish. Bake in the oven for for 35 minutes.

Amarula Sauce

  1. Add butter, sugar and cream in a saucepan on low heat and stir until sugar is dissolved and the sauce has thickened.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in Amarula.
  3. Pierce the pudding sponge with a fork and as soon as it is taken out of the oven then pour sauce over the pudding.
