A South African Breakfast - Motogo (soft porridge)

Motogo in South Africa is a smooth maize meal porridge enjoyed for breakfast, best served with butter, sugar and milk.

What you’ll need

1 1/2 cup maize meal

1 cup cold water

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 cups boiling water

Butter, sugar and milk to serve

Method

  1. Mix maize meal with 1 cup water
  2. Add 3 cups of water in a small pot and bring to boil.
  3. Add salt to boiling water.
  4. Stir maize meal mixture into the boiling water and simmer for at least 30 minutes with the lid on.

Motogo always tastes better when it is served warm with butter, sugar and milk.
